LIBRARY LINK OF THE WEEK
KIDS-IN-MIND:
MOVIE RATINGS THAT ACTUALLY WORK

Today we are beginning a new (and what I hope will be) weekly feature of the blog citing one of our many reference links included in our Online Resources page, as well as websites that the staff at Albright Memorial Library has found to be great resources for answering questions from patrons.

Have you often wondered why a movie got a PG-13 instead of a PG rating? Or are you unsure whether to take your child with you to an R-rated movie? If this is the case, Kids-In-Mind will be a very helpful site for you in answering these questions.

Kids-in-mind.com is a website from Critics Inc. in Ohio (they also host two other movie-related websites - critics.com and mediascreen.com). The purpose of the site is to inform parents and adults about content in motion pictures, both currently in theatres and on DVD. Therefore, parents and adults will have objective and complete information about a film's content and, based on their own value system, can decide whether or not they ot their children will want to see the film.

Each film on the site is evaluated on three areas of criteria - sex and nudity; violence and gore; and profanity - on a 1 (no objectionable content for children) to 10 (strong objectionable content for children) scale. The site also explains, comprehensively, specific scenes in the film that warrant their rating on their 1-10 criteria scale.

Therefore, the next time you are wondering if your child may be a little too young to see a certain film, take a look at Kids-In-Mind.com.
