LIBRARY LINK OF THE WEEK
SCRANTON GAS PRICES

Going into this Memorial Day weekend, the subject on everyone's mind is the skyrocketing cost to fill your tank at the gas station. So this week's library link focuses on how to find the lowest cost of petrol in your area.

ScrantonGasPrices.com includes listings of gas stations with both the highest and the lowest cost of a gallon of gas--both in and around the Scranton area (including Lackawanna, Luzerne and Wayne counties). The prices quoted on the site are provided by consumers just like you and me.

Two other noteworthy sites on the subject of rising gas prices - WNEP has a gas tracker website; and if you really want to depress yourself, check out the How Gas Prices Work section of the How Stuff Works website.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THAT OTHER ONE?

Above are flyers for two additional upcoming events at Albright Memorial Library. Click on each thumbnail for full image.

There are so many things going on in the Reference Department and at Albright Memorial Library that some blog entires for upcoming events have disappeared from the front page of the blog. HOWEVER, on the upper left hand side of the blog (under LINKS) there is a link to Upcoming Events, which will list all forthcoming events and link directly to those blog entries.

LIBRARY LINK OF THE WEEK
GODCHECKER.COM:
YOUR GUIDE TO THE GODS

Godchecker.com is a site our staff stumbled upon a few months ago when we were trying to find information on a really obscure Greek god. We tried all of our mythology reference books and all of our databases - we even Googled out of desperation with zero results.

So a search for a gods website resulted in the excellent site Godchecker.com: Your Guide to the Gods.

Godchecker.com's Mythology Encyclopedia currently features over 2,850 deities. The site offer the ability to browse the pantheons of the world, explore ancient myths, and discover Gods of everything from Fertility to Fluff with the fully searchable Holy Database Of All Known Gods.

Its coverage also goes beyond just the Greek and Roman gods to include several other gods from countries all over the world - from Japan to Middle Eastern to African and beyond.

The site also recently added a Christian Saints database to the site that includes brief biographies, feast days and more.

So if you're looking for either a reknown or more obscure god or goddess throughout the world, give Godchecker.com a click.

LIBRARY LINK OF THE WEEK
SAVINGS BOND
REDEMPTION VALUE TABLES

One of our most-used sources in the Reference Collection is a government document that was filed in the "Savings Bonds" Vertical File titled Savings Bonds Redemption Tables. This item showed our library patrons the interest earned on various U.S. savings bonds including Series I, E and EE.

However, the website www.savingsbonds.gov has now included a section of their website devoted to showing your interest earned on your savings bonds with the simple click of your mouse. Presented in a PDF (or scanned socument) format, the site is up-to-date and very easy to use.

One of our library patrons has created a document that quickly and easily shows you how to access these savings bonds redemption tables (THANK YOU!). The scan of these instructions is below; click on the image for a larger view.

LIBRARY LINK OF THE WEEK
NADA GUIDES:
NEW CAR PRICES, USED CAR PRICES,
NEW CAR REVIEWS AND CAR BUYING AT NADA GUIDES

The N.A.D.A. Official Used Car Guide, published monthly by the National Automobile Dealers Used Car Guide Company, is undoubtedly one of the most popular sources in our Ready Reference collection. Library patrons throughout the Lackawanna County Library System often call the reference desk looking for trade and retail values of used and new cars.

The N.A.D.A web site has made searching for new and used car values so much easier and quickly provides the information you need. It allows you to search for either new or used cars (by year, model, and make), then further estimates their value based on car condition, mileage, and optional eqiptment (such as power seats, alloy wheels and air conditioning).

N.A.D.A. also provides information on buying a car or selling your car, vehicle history reports and reviews, and side-by-side comparisons.

So if you are interested in buying a new or used car, or if you would like to sell your car and simply want an estimate of its value, look no further than N.A.D.A Guides on the Web.

But feel free to still call us at the Reference Desk at 348-3000, x3008 and we will look up the car values for you as well.
