RIDE THE "HERITAGE EXPRESS TRAIN"

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

Ride the rails on the Heritage Explorer Train to Carbondale's Pioneer Nights festival on Saturday, August 23, 2008. This family-friendly train ride from Steamtown National Historic Site to Carbondale includes a free activity guide, music, and story-telling with costumed characters from Northeastern Pennsylvania's rich history.

In the Pioneer City, join in a scavenger hunt, watch the parade, and enjoy plenty of great food! Then sit back and relax on the train ride back to Steamtown NHS; or, if you used the shuttle bus, stay and enjoy the rest of the festival!


SCHEDULE

10:00 am - Train Departs Steamtown National Historic Site
11:45 am - Train Arrives in Carbondale for festivities
2:30 pm - Train Departs Carbondale
4:05 pm - Train arrives at Steamtown National Historic Site

TICKETS

FREE - Children (12 and under)
$5.00 - Adults
$4.00 - Seniors (65 and over)


ALL passengers must have a ticket to ride the train (even kids!). Tickets are available at all Lackawanna County Libraries from July 30 to August 19 on a first come, first served basis.

SHUTTLE BUS -- A FREE shuttle bus from Carbondale to Scranton will be available. Families from the mid and upper valley can take the shuttle to Steamtown NHS and ride the train back up the valley to the festival. The bus departs at 9:00 am from the Carbondale Train Station on River Street in Carbondale. It will arrive at Steamtown NHS in time for passengers to board the train. Passengers MUST reserve their seat on the bus when obtaining their train tickets.

Albright Memorial Library will be hosting the New York Pennsylvania Paranormal Society (NYPAPS), who are paranormal investigators or Ghost Hunters.

The Society will begin with an informative talk, followed by a presentation of their work, and questions from the audience.

They will then check both Albright Memorial Library and the Lackawanna County Children's Library for any spirits. This portion can only be done by the team.

This program is not suitable for children.

NEW COLLECTION OF GENEALOGY BOOKS:
"MAYFLOWER FAMILIES"

The Society of Mayflower Descendents of Pennsylvania recently donated a series of books titled "Mayflower Families" to the Reference Department's Genealogy collection. This impressive set of over twenty volumes provides extensive biographical information on people and families who sailed on the Mayflower and settled in North America.


The books can be viewed in the Reference Department.
