Now abandoned, Great Blasket Island off the west coast of Ireland was one of the last strongholds of the Irish language and one of the most primitive places in Western Europe. In On an Irish Island, Robert Kanigel writes of the community there and the scholars and linguists who visited to capture a taste of a dying culture.
Just weeks before St. Patrick’s Day, Kanigel comes to Scranton to tell the story of this remote and beautiful place.
Sponsored by the Lackawanna County Library System, Pages & Places, and the Everhart Museum.
