Fran Lebowitz To Speak At Library Lecture Series Thursday, November 8th

The Matthew F. Flynn Library Lecture Series is pleased to announce the 2012 selection for the American Masters Series--author, cultural satirist and purveyor of urban cool Fran Lebowitz. She will be speaking at the Scranton Cultural Center Thursday, November 8th at 7 PM. Tickets are FREE with your library card and will be available one month prior to the event.

Fran Lebowitz is the author of two acclaimed (and quotable) collections of essays--1978's Metropolitan Life and 1981's Social Studies, now published in the single volume The Fran Lebowitz Reader. She also wrote the 1994 children's book Mr. Chas and Lisa Sue Meet the Pandas. For more than twenty years she has been famous in part for writing Exterior Signs of Wealth, a long-overdue novel purportedly about rich people who want to be artists, and artists who want to be rich; she has jokingly referred to her notorious writer's block as "writer's blockade". She has also worked as a writer and columnist for Andy Warhol's Interview (hired by Warhol himself) and Mademoiselle.

Fran is a frequent guest on The Late Show With David Letterman and had a recurring role as Judge Janice Goldberg on TV's Law & Order.

In 2010, HBO debuted Public Speaking, a documentary about Lebowitz by Martin Scorsese containing interviews and clips from speaking engagements. The film is now available on DVD.

Make sure to mark your calendars for what is sure to be a hilarious and entertaining night!
