Next Socrates Cafe Thursday, July 5th at 6:30 PM In Community Room

The next Socrates Cafe will be held on Thursday, July 5th at 6:30 PM in the Community Room (basement of the Lackawanna County Children's Library). This event is handicapped accessible.

Facilitated by Professor Phil Jenkins from Marywood University, Socrates Cafe brings together people from all walks of life and experiences to raise questions, listen to, and discuss a topic chosen by the group that evening.

Author Stephanie Powell Watts To Speaks At Pages & Places Cafe Thursday, July 26th At 7 PM


Author Stephanie Powell Watts will speak at the P&P Café on Thursday, July 26th at 7 PM.  The Cafe take place at the Radisson Hotel in the Platform Lounge.  Admission is FREE.  Happy Hour is at 6 PM (cash bar), and the program begins at 7 PM.   

Stephanie Powell Watts is a writer and teacher of both fiction and creative nonfiction. She received her PhD from the University of Missouri, where she was a Gus T. Ridgel fellow. 

Stephanie's short fiction, essays and poems have appeared in a number of journals including Oxford American, New Letters, African American Review, Tartts IV, Tampa Review, Obsidian III and has been anthologized in the 2008 Pushcart anthology and New Stories from the South 2007 and 2009. 

Her collection of short fiction, We Are Taking Only What We Need was published by BkMk press in December 2011.

George Aulisio To Speak At Pages & Places Cafe Thursday, July 12th At 7 PM

George Aulisio from the University of Scranton will speak at the P&P Café on Thursday, July 12 at 7 PM.  The Cafe take place at the Radisson Hotel in the Platform Lounge.  Admission is FREE.  Happy Hour is at 6 PM (cash bar), and the program begins at 7 PM.   

George will be speaking on the topic of Technological Determinism, or how technology affects and drives society in different directions.

George is Assistant Professor and Public Services Librarian at The University of Scranton. He earned a Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science from Drexel University and a Master of Liberal Arts in philosophy and metaphysics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Socrates Cafe Rescheduled For Thursday, June 28th

June's installent of Socrates Cafe has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 28th at  6:30 PM in the Community Room (basement of the Lackawanna County Children's Library). This event is handicapped accessible.

This event had originally been scheduled for Thursday, June 14th.

Reference Department Now Offers International Faxing

The Reference Department now does International Faxing!  The cost is $2.00 per page. 

Faxing services are available for both outgoing AND incoming faxes.

Prices for standard faxing for $1.00 per page for faxing in the (570) area code or toll-free faxing. For long distance faxing, the cost is $2.00 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page.

Thursday, June 14, in the Platform Lounge at the Radisson Hotel in Scranton, at 7 PM

Trebbe Johnson is the director of Vision Arrow, offering programs that combine wilderness exploration, the mythic quest, and the search for meaning.  A lifelong adventurer in inner and outer worlds, she has camped alone in the Arctic; studied classical Indian dance; worked as a model, street sweeper, and award-winning multimedia producer; led contemplative journeys in a clearcut forest and the Sahara Desert; and explored myth, desire, and the natural world through her writing in several genres.

Eat, drink, relax, learn at this free program!  This month's cafe programs are sponsored by The Gathering at Keystone College, the area's premier literary conference, taking place July 19 through 22.
