UPDATE: There WILL BE A December Socrates Cafe Thursday, December 6th

It has been announced that there will be a Socrates Cafe Thursday, December 6th at 6:30 PM in the Community Room (basement of the Lackawanna County Children's Library). This event is handicapped accessible.

Facilitated by Professor Phil Jenkins from Marywood University, Socrates Cafe brings together people from all walks of life and experiences to raise questions, listen to, and discuss a topic chosen by the group that evening.

"Bully, Cyberbullying, and Youth Depression" Presentation at West Scranton High School Tuesday, November 20th

John Halligan, who lost his 13 year-old son to suicide after being bullied and cyberbullied by classmates, will be speaking about his loss and experience at West Scranton High School (1201 Luzerne Street) on Tuesday, November 20th at 6:30 PM.  John's presentation will cover the lessons learned too late for his family regarding how to deal with bullying, cyberbullying, and teen depression.  Parent will be empowered with strategies to take preventive actions with their own children.

Thursday's Socrates Cafe Is Final Installment of 2012

The upcoming Socrates Cafe (Thursday, November 15th) will be the final installment of 2012.  The meetings will resume in January 2013 following Thursday's scheduled meeting.

Thanksgiving Bake Sale And Other Fun Stuff at Childrens Library and Library Express This Weekend

This Saturday is the Greater Scranton Jaycees Christmas Parade, but there are a lot of fun holiday themed activities scheduled for the library this weekend.

Lackawanna County Children's Library will be hosting their annual Thanksgiving Book and Bake sale this weekend.  The book and bake sale will take place Friday, November 16th, 10 AM -4 PM; Saturday, November 17th, 10 AM - 4 PM; and Sunday, November 18th, 2 PM - 5 PM.

The Children's Library will also be hosting holiday themed activities for children Saturday, November 17th.  Stop by after the Santa Parade for stories, songs and a fun snowflake craft! The fun starts at 11 am and ends at 2 pm. Events include:

11 AM to 12 PM - Ornament Making!
12 PM to 1 PM - Holiday Stories and a puppet show!
1 PM to 2 PM - Ornament Making! 
For all ages 

In addition, Library Express (2nd floor, The Mall At Steamtown) will be hosting Santa Day Parade Activities on Saturday, November 17th. Activities include: Drop-by craft and letters to Santa from 10AM-5PM, and a Christmas themed Story Hour at 1PM.
